Who makes the best mags? Barrett? Can I just buy a stag bolt carrier group and fire? I'm worried about the headspacing.

only pussy's check headspacing... all you need is a 6.8spc barrel and bolt and 6.8 mag.
good to go.

And reloading supplies if you plan on shooting a lot. 6.8 ammo is getting cheaper but will never be close to .223.

My 6.8AR has replaced by .308 bolt action for 95% of my hunting. 85g TSX or 95g TTSX are pretty good bullets for deer and hog.
