Anyone here familiar with .308 AK's?

I think I might buy a .308 Saiga, convert it, and then SBR it. Problem I'm running into is it seems no one knows shit about .308 AK's. I can't find a single post, thread, or anything on someone who has SBR'ed a .308 Saiga. The 16" barrel rifle appears to have it's gas block at about 14" or so, which means I'm going to have to relocate that, which makes shit a lot more complicated. Anyone shot one of these? Have anything to share?

My other option is to buy a .223 Saiga, convert it, and have a custom barrel made in .300blk.

Could you convert it to the Draco gas system? That way, you could just drill a new gas port in the barrel.

I don't know if the .308 version use a different piston. I was thinking maybe the Galil micro gas piston might work, but I don't even know where to start.

I know they make an SBR .308, but I didn't check their site yet. Some of the shit on here is ridiculous. The siamese .223? The .50 BMG ar-15 called the "Beotch".... a fucking MUZZLE LOADER AR-15 upper?!

I spent some time looking into the VEPR's, people claiming accuracy improvements, etc. After I saw their accuracy I don't really need a VEPR, a Saiga .308 is more than adequate. Besides, I probably would feel bad cutting up one.

You know, I almost hate to say it, but have you considered a bullpup setup for this? You could buy a Saiga, and pour your CJ-level ferocity for mechanical objects' resistance to your will into getting it to interface properly.

I really dislike bullpups as a whole. The only one I would ever own is a Aug.

Well, now that I've got my hands on one, I'm not going to SBR it. They are really short, I didn't realize 4 1/2" of barrel went into the receiver. The muzzle is already really close to my face, I don't think I want it any closer. I just need to find someone who can thread AK barrels locally, and I'll need to turn down the barrel behind the thread so I can push the front sight back behind the threads.
