What is your favorite handgun of all-time?

Many people consider them to be the finest production handgun ever made. Yes they are really that good. The price will reflect that. I hand people a python as an example of quality, as to base all other guns off of. Some people will argue other revolvers can equal the accuracy, or the feel, or the recoil, etc. The python does it all perfectly, feel, lock up, double action trigger, single action trigger, recoil. IMHO, the Python is the finest wheel-gun made.Originally posted by CJ View PostMany people consider them to be the finest production handgun ever made. Yes they are really that good. The price will reflect that. I hand people a python as an example of quality, as to base all other guns off of.

Although many people consider the python to be the finest handgun ever made, I feel it's too broad of a statement. As far as beauty and quality, I'd say yes. Production is really the key there. You can't include competition STI's or Wilson Combat's or anything like that. But by and large a semi auto pistol will have a lighter trigger pull in rapid fire, something a revolver - no matter how perfect - can't do. So it's apples to oranges. However, I feel like a python would be more accurate, more reliable, and better looking than any 1911 production pistol. Each have their advantages, but just to be referred to it as the best production handgun ever made is quite a statement.Originally posted by Vertnut View PostIMHO, the Python is the finest wheel-gun made."When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic." -Benjamin Franklin

Now I will have to think about it... I already have 6 revolvers, i don't really I need another just to have it."No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms. That's the revolver to own. If you have any .357 revolvers sell them to fund the purchase of the python. They will be rendered obsolete.Originally posted by FATHERFORD View PostNow I will have to think about it... Two questionsOriginally posted by CJ View PostThat's the revolver to own. If you have any .357 revolvers sell them to fund the purchase of the python. They will be rendered obsolete.
First off, are the .44 Anacondas considered as nice as the pythons? I have always wanted a anaconda.
Also whats the difference in a King Cobra .357 and a Python?

No, they are not the same quality of Pythons. They are known for being accurate, though. The Anaconda's also look great with the full under lug. In my opinion the Smith Model 29 is a higher quality pistol for .44 magnum, but again the Anaconda is a beautiful gun. The King Cobra is the cheaper replacement for the Python. The Python was discontinued because it was hand built in the custom shop, they weren't making money on them towards the end (Even at $2,000-$10,000). The King Cobra came later to replace it with a less expensive machining/assembly process. The King Cobra operates on a very similar action design to Smith & Wesson revolvers. The Python operates on the old 1890's Colt action with the two hammer blocking safety mechanisms. The older design was felt to be superior in terms feel and silky operation. However, it is more susceptible to wear in comparison. It's said Colt could produce 10 King Cobra's in the time it took to tune the action on one Python. They are all good guns, but not as nice.Originally posted by Lason View PostTwo questions

I never sell guns, it's against my nature....Originally posted by CJ View PostThat's the revolver to own. If you have any .357 revolvers sell them to fund the purchase of the python. I'm the same way, I think I've only ever sold two guns. But, if a python was on the line, I would do it.Originally posted by FATHERFORD View PostI never sell guns, it's against my nature...."When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic." -Benjamin Franklin

He is building/buying a 338 lapua and is debating on selling one of his 3. For the right price I might pick it up."No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms. That's not bad. For a nice Python you'll usually see them for $2,000. Barrel lengths change prices, but that's the standard.Originally posted by FATHERFORD View PostWell i got his practically brand new S&W 500 for $875 and 4 boxes of shells, so he seems to sell cheap."When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic." -Benjamin Franklin
