How do you get off of "the list"

Nah, you're talking about the OFAC list, I deal with this every day. There are MANY, MANY people that get OFAC alerts on their bureau. If you have the same name as someone else and a similar location of birth you're on the OFAC list, but the DOB never matches. I probably see about 2,000 OFAC hits a year and I've probably looked at 20k in total and I've never seen a real legitimate hit. It wouldn't prevent you from getting a loan.

You don't get off the list, because he wouldn't be on it (assuming he isn't a terrorist). It's simply an alert that is generated off of the main list based on some similarity. However, the OFAC list would not prevent you from getting a loan, and would not prevent you from getting a gun. To my knowledge the only way you can be declined for a weapon is if you have a felony or recent domestic battery charge. You should probably post up his name and let someone run his background, because he almost certainly has a felony conviction.
