Looks great. But do you really NEED a .45 caliber rifle?"When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic." -Benjamin Franklin

having never cold blued a gun, i was thrilled with the way it turned out. stupid simple and looks fantastic. Love the fact that it didnt come out seriously deeply blued adn that i could make it as dark as i wanted. went for more of a lighter color to give it more of an aged look. Couldnt be happier with it!May God give us strength and courage in the time of our darkest hours.

It does look good, I'm sure you know, but make sure you keep it well oiled, cold blue (and even hot blue) really doesn't do much to prevent rust.Originally posted by Jester View Posthaving never cold blued a gun, i was thrilled with the way it turned out. stupid simple and looks fantastic. I used one shortly when I hunted on public lands as you are/were limited to archery/shotgun/black powder rifles. I went the route of 12 gauge shotgun w/buckshot to a .54 cal CVA black powder rifle to finally using a 12 gauge w/rifled barrel and sabot slugs. The black powder rifle was almost as accurate as the slug gun but the reloading, the cleaning and the need to discharge it after an unsuccessful hunt was a PITA. My bull-barreled slug gun had paper plate accuracy at 150 yards and the BP rifle was close, but had a tendency to have a wild flyer once in around 6 shots. To get reliable targeting it had to be cleaned after each shot.Originally posted by Jimbo View PostLooks like a cool project. I've heard some people use them for certain types of hunting, but I've never used one. Looking forward to your progress.
