Poor Mans Gas Buster

My shorty M16 wasn't terrible, but it was annoying. My nose is butted right against the charging handle.

But the gas buster, or RTV job, and gas vent do help a ton. Some guns only require one or the other. Some both. Some none at all. I did both because why not and ill never use a forward assist.

That's my thinking also. In 3 years I have never used the forward assist so why not replace it with the AR gas vent.

Nope. But I've shot my m16 without a forward assist and gas is blown straight back. Even being on the opposite side of the gun b

this was one of the first reasons I installed my first piston kit. When shooting mine indoors and with the gas right in my damn nose with the suppressor on the gun I started to hate to shoot it. Installed the piston kit and most of it went away. I still need to do the the silicone and forward assist mod though for total protection. The amonia from the Serbian cheap shit I shoot will almost kill you. haha

I think I might chuck a forward assist in a drill press and see what happens.

I have never noticed it that much while shooting with my suppressor on. I did bye a Gas buster charging handle and ended up using it on my wifes AR which doesn't ever get the can installed on it.
