I've got 1 tapco 20 round that seems to cycle fine, and a couple 30 round metal mags that work well. I modified the bolt to allow mag change with the bolt closed, and (since they don't really have a feed ramp) used a dremel to bevel the lower entrance to the chamber. The removable mags all seemed to want to jam rounds on either side of the chamber pretty regular. The factory box mag pretty well always worked flawless. The mods to mine so far have made it cycle much more dependable. All that said, it's still a cheap rifle but fun to plink with.

I have at least one of both, and for some reason I honestly like the SKS's better. If I was in an all out brawl I'd definitely choose an AK over an SKS, but for the range, I love my sks's. Don't know why, just always have loved those rifles.Originally posted by YALE View PostDude, you have at least one AK. Why not leave the SKS alone?

Unless it's an SKS-D (takes AK mags), I would stay away from trying to modify the SKS to take the duckbill mags. There are ways to do it but honestly the most reliable setup is the fixed 10 round mags are the best.Originally posted by 98sohc281 View PostWho makes a good 30 round sks magazine? You can find fixed 20 round Chinese mags too that work the same way as the 10 rounder and they work well too.
