It's very wasteful to only take the backstraps. However, a lot of people do it because it's easy to cut out with basically no effort and you also don't gave to gut the animal.Originally posted by Danny46 View PostIve never hunted hog before, is that all you keep off of them? backstrap?

You can have it processed the same as a deer. I shoot several a year more so because of the damage they cause to farm land than anything. On occasion I will take backstrap provided it isn't a huge bore or that aren't in poor shape. I shot one tonight after target shooting and just left her but the land owner felt the same way about both of the pigs we shot."It's another burrito, it's a cold Lone Star in my hand!"

Hams and shoulders shouldn't be wasted - only reason you have to gut a pig is if you want the ribs and/or tenders. Neither are usually worth the effort on a wild pig.
Just skin it, cut the shoulders off, cut the backstrap out, and then cut the hams off. Leave the rest for the 'yotes.

They cut the boars to help calm them down a bit and supposedly make the meat taste better. Most pig hunts around here are catch, release, and shoots...Originally posted by Sleeper View Postwhy the fuck would you tag and release any of those damn things.
