  • Who in here owns an auto clay thrower?

I'm starting to do a little research on them, and it's pretty overwhelming. Greg has as well. Anyone here own one, have anything to share?

Did some quick reading and the only one that I saw consistent good reviews on was the Atlas branded machines. Seems all the others are hit and miss.

That seems to be the consensus I've come to as well, however they are $$$ considering their wobble models start at $1,600.

I saw several guys talking about building their own wobble. Seems you could get with Chris and put something together.

Are you $1,600 wanting to improve your bird hunting skills or do you just like to shoot some things in the air, because.......

I was trying to set this up with some friends of mine last year, even built and test flew the plane. But they never came through.
I can build a target plane for roughly $70 each. If people wnt this to happen, I'll take donations and get it going. I can build a 70mph highly maneuverable target plane, or 10 as long as I'm not spending my money alone.
I might even be able to get the cost down a little more if I get creative.

Haha, that wouldn't be cost effective at all.

                Atlas AT-50 wobble

Here's what you and I were looking at. We could probably build a magazine extension for it, rather than spend $50 for another 20 clays.

I have a friend that has a couple auto throwers. I'm not sure what brand they are but they work very well. Pretty simple besides the hopper system, no wobble or oscillation functions.

It was an actual house? Can you ask him what the particulars are that he knows of that states he can do that on his property?

I've done quite a bit of research on automatic throwers and I've gotten a good bit of info from talking to the guys at Do-All-Outdoors, Champion, Atlas, Promatic, and LaPorte.

Champion and Do-All-Outdoors make what would be considered entry level automatic throwers, which typically sell places like Cabelas and Bass Pro, for less than $500. Online reviews of the products by the two manufacturers are very hit and miss. Some people have no issues what so ever while others will go through 2 or 3 machines before they get one that won't break a clay every other cycle or two. Champion sells A LOT of the Easybird throwers, while Do-All-Outdoors sells alot of the Aerial Assault 3.0 and Whitewing throwers.

Atlas really is your first step into commercial grade quality at an affordable price. Their Patriot and AT-50 throwers have nothing but stellar reviews online for a commercial grade thrower made for an individual. Atlas is kind of in a league of their own because they bridge the gap between the really inexpensive stuff and the real expensive stuff. They have club/range quality traps that run up $5k for a single thrower.

Promatic, LaPorte, and MEC are the top 3 manufacturers that outfit most of the skeet/trap ranges around the U.S. and they are your high dollar throwers. Promatic is similar to Atlas in what they offer, except they have a bigger line of traps starting at a higher price, and they build more club/range size traps. LaPorte and MEC primarily build club/range size traps.

Elm Fork over in Irving uses both Promatic and LaPorte traps out at their facility.
