The fireball was so gigantic that it blinded me and made aiming pretty much impossible after the first shot. Never again do I want to own a hand gun under 4"

Standard pressure .45 ACP is pretty meh. IMO, you're much better served with a subcompact .40 S&W, or if it has to be a revolver, a snubnose .357 Magnum (and if the recoil/fireball is too much, go .38 Special +P or regular .38 Special).
