Guest repliedI've got no problem with open carry of holstered handguns. I think walking around with a rifle is fucking retarded.

Also, i'm drunk right now, because I don't have to fix a single fucking thing at work until 12pm tomorrow.

Since I was mentioned, why do people do this like this? Same reason you had King having sit ins during the Civil Rights Era. It's a way to exercise your right and even if it makes it uncomfortable for everyone else, they will get used to it. What other rights are sacrificed because they make someone uncomfortable? How many would put up with "I don't like how you vote because your candidate makes me uncomfortable. Would you be kind enough not to vote?"
Or "I would feel more safe with troops staying in your house with you. Neighborhood watch and all, you understand."
Same thing. Just because someone is offended or uncomfortable by someone exercising a right is not justification to not exercise it.

I think absolute fucking dullards representing open carry is the problem.
It's like having me as the spokesperson for an NBA team... No one is going to take me seriously and by god they might even think it's downright comical.

There are many advocates on opencarry.org that do it much better, and are not doing it to just look "cool". They are intentionally WAY friendlier while carrying, and happy to engage people in very civil conversation.
They also are very conscious of keeping their hands away from their pistol to minimize any perception of threat. Their goal is more to desensitize people to being around and interacting with those that are open carrying, so that others don't shit their pants and call in a "man with a gun" for no other reason.
Sounds like they are doing it way better.

I have no problem with a pistol on a belt in a restaurant or whatever, but not laying it on the table while you eat. Obviously this is just an example, but it all comes down to responsibility. After all the newness wears off and people quit pushing the boundaries of "their rights and what's legal or illegal" we can go about our normal lives.
