The Saiga 12's had finally gotten down to under $700. Recently Classic, or maybe it was centerfire, had them for around $630 I believe.

You know, if these were fully functional shotguns out of the box and good for home protection, or hunting, I would say what a tragedy. However, they are really just fun to play with. The rifles may be something to get if you have always wanted one but I wouldn't jump on the shotty bandwagon. I believe some American companies are making a magazine fed shotty now anyways.

For anyone wanting a magazine fed shotty, you need to realize that the real weak point is in the shells. Anytime you have shells loaded one on top of the other with pressure involved you have the possibility of deformed shells that will not feed. I had ever mod in the book almost on my Saiga but if you left it in the corner with the slide forward it would deform the top three or four shells over time. My solution for a while was to leave the slide locked back. Then you have the recoil spring getting weaker over time. Not a huge concern but just not a throw in the corner and neglect pump. I do not regret buying and modifying the gun, I just know I would have done something else if I knew the end result. They can be made to be very reliable, but you have to know a lot of ins and outs to really get maximum use out of it.

I want to say like 1299.00 or something. Basic Saigas went for 799.00 but by the time you converted them and made them reliable you were close to that number. Shit I cannot remember now.

When I was shopping before, VEPR-12 prices were $800-1000. They were a little more when they first came out.

You can load some full brass cased shells and use one for the top of each mag.

I had it deform the top four one time. One was so bad the pellets dropped out into the magazine. Loved the gun just not what I had ultimately hoped for. After I had the bolt polished and re worked it was better but still not perfect.

I have never heard of a brass case before. I am going to google that now.

Magtech makes them, these were the standard before paper/plastic multi-piece shot shells were invented. In WW1/WW2 they had brass shells.

Thanks for the link. Just ordered one. When I looked at about a dozen places the other night everybody was out. I could have sworn I had checked Centerfire Systems too, but maybe not.

Same here. I have two that i fully converted. One in combloc red wood and one in black poly with a skeleton stock. Paid 299 for the first one about 3 years ago and 425 for the second one a few months ago. Both are x39.

Had plans for a 5.45, and eventually a VEPR. Thats all shot to hell now.
