Don't buy cheap shells. I patterned all of them that I could get my hands on last year and will stick with $15 + per box loads or my own hand loads for the rest of my life based on what I saw. The El-cheapo Winchester 100 to a big box universal shell were the worst of the bunch; 30% patterns or slightly under that with a full choke at 35 meters in a 28" circle with dense spots all over the place. I got the same results from several different guns.

I'd shoot nothing but Fiocchi Golden Pheasant if they offered this load in 7.5 shot. These promise to be just as good; www.bandpusa.com.

Those Rio game loads are a steal at that price. That's below normal wholesale. Load up.

I remember when a flat was $29. And it wasn't that long ago.

I don't mind the fixed seasons. Here it's almost always really good the entire time as we are in the direct migratory path.

I personally thing the season should be determined by the climate and not a set date.

We are covered up in white wings here at the moment. I sure hope they hang around till season starts.

dont buy target, buy game loads. They usually start appearing in mid/late august.

I expect our season to be short and sweet cj.

We have quite a few hanging around now. First cold snap usually 2nd week of sept.

I usually hit up cabelas or walmart in the offseason for shells. Alco usually runs a sale in our season as well.5.50 a box

Hey Sleeper, I need you as our spotter as to when the birds start flying. I plan on going the second week of the season, weekend of the 6th. Given the cool summer, I figure they might leave a little later than usual. Who knows, but that's my best guess.

I spent $133 on my super combo TX license last year. That includes the public hunting fee too, which I doubt I will get again this year. Then the duck stamp on top of it. I get all of that every year though, so I am good no matter what I decide to do.
