That's why I'm wondering how the ATF will take this. I've heard of them busting people for doing group build parties with CNC machines and such as their are technicalities such as the owner having to load their own software, hit the start button themselves, etc. Dude has sold almost 400 units in 5 days, that's almost half a mil!!Originally posted by YALE View PostGroup buy?

I dont think the ATF can say much if the lower owner attaches the jig, changes the heads, and presses the button press, the rest is preprogrammed. Its just like borrowing a press or any other power toolOriginally posted by phaux View PostThat's why I'm wondering how the ATF will take this. The government is going to outlaw automated machines? Or computer software? That machine is capable of cutting anything that is within its working envelope. It just happens to be very appropriately sized for AR-15 lowers and isn't worth owning for much else besides small parts. ANY automated machine could be marketed as the same thing.Originally posted by jefehbk View PostYou know the government will outlaw this eventually. Fbi, nsa or someone will hack this guys website and track who buys what. Next, 3am wakeup call from guys in black helicopters.

A few weeks ago I went to a ATF conference in Fort Worth. The FBI(NICS) was there as well. When the topic of 80% anything came up, they very clearly did not want to comment.
An hour or two later the 80% topic came up again, --- again very vocal with a "no comment" response.

It is a taboo topic for sure.

It's the gubment. While I think this is a neat idea and smokin for the price, said people in the govt are not going to be happy.Originally posted by John -- '02 HAWK View PostI dont think the ATF can say much if the lower owner attaches the jig, changes the heads, and presses the button press, the rest is preprogrammed. A small timeline of how the govt hates home manf:

Once upon a time parts kits of all kinds of guns flowed freely into the US, they only had to be saw cut in one or two places. People started building guns

ATF changed demil to torch cut, people kept building guns..

ATF chnged demil to multiple torch cuts and through the trunnion people kept building guns.. people kept building guns..

Govt banned import of foreign barrels, crippling for a short time the home building industry, people kept building guns..

People figured how to repair demilled drilled barrels

ATF changed barrel demil to torch cut with a rod welded in.

With how fast 3d printers are evolving and at the same time going down in price coupled with ever evolving small machines like this, the govt is going to react

I helped a guy at work do 2 of them on a nice sized mill and I'm they turned out decent. IMO, trying this on a drill press will yield horrible results.Originally posted by orphan Shelby View PostHave any of yall used any of these pieces? Anyone here messing with this process? Im getting tempted to buy one for fun

so I'm guessing it finishes out the FCG group on an 80%? It doesn't machine the whole thing, right? The reason I ask is the video keeps showing a fully cnc'ed receiver."When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic." -Benjamin Franklin

As Inline 6 stated, I haven't heard of the best results on a drill press, though I have met a few people that said with the right jigs theirs came out pretty nice.Originally posted by orphan Shelby View PostHave any of yall used any of these pieces? Lowers with non-mil-spec trigger guards that are otherwise mil-spec are also compatible. Defense Distributed recommends using the 7075 Ares Armor Raw 80% Lower AR-15 Billet, available for purchase here.
