Yeah about 1 week after I bought my Shield 40 I found out that the Shield 40 was available without a safety. I'm kinda wondering what S&W would say if I sent it to them and asked for them to remove the safety (convert it to the non safety version). Im not a fan of the safety on a CCW.
Just practice and work it into your routine. It's not that difficult even in a hurry. Not like it's a 92FS safety!
I've shot Kahr 9s and my XDS 9mm with 3.3" barrel is much more comfortable to shoot. It's the nicest shooting pocket pistol I have ever shot. I have not shot the shield so I won't vouch for it one way or another.
That safety is not going to engage unless you flip it on. Or have grizzly bear hands. And-or a junk holster.
I'll Admit The reason I chose the shield was because of the safety. I was one of those people who Felt uneasy about having a round in the chamber. Or not having a safety on at all times. Now I just leave the safety off and a round in the chamber 24/7. The way It should be. With that said I've done a lot of drills holstering/unholstering, unloaded to see if the safety would accidentally engage It didn't. I don't know if it's just my shield, but my safety selector is pretty firm and like I said earlier you would have to intentionally engage it.

Without my gun hobby. I would cut off my own dick and let the rats eat it...

I haven't found any articles or reports of it actually happening....but I'm sure there are horror stories of it happening during someones test review of the gun.....and probably with other guns. The safety on mine is pretty damn stiff...it would take a LOT of use to get it to happen unintentionally. Still a concern regardless.
Yale, If I'm going to shoot a Ruger LW Commander I better leave my CC at home...... or I will be taking one home.
I already know I want a Colt LW 38 Super commander for my next gun. It's gonna have to wait until Nov/Dec though since I just picked up a DE and G29.
My carry guns will be my XDS, XDM compact, G29 and eventually a LW Commander. If Ruger or Springfield releases a 38 super I so there too. A Sig P227 in 10mm would also get my attention in a hurry.
I shot both at Target Masters before I bought my shield, and I didn't like the XDS fit in my hand, and the shield shot better as far as I'm concerned, so I bought one
