  • To compensate or not to compensate

I currently do NOT have any firearms with a compensator...How much of a difference does it make if Im lookin for a pistol in 45ACP...?

They are supposed to help with muzzle flip. I personally didn't find them all that helpful. A wide beavertail safety and a checkered front strap go a lot further in keeping the muzzle down. They add length as well, so a no-go for a carry piece.
You can add a compensator to most Mil-spec 1911's for about $25. You just change out the barrel bushing.

.45 isn't generally high enough pressure to be worth it. Brakes work by providing a surface perpendicular to the bore to divert gasses away and introduce force in the opposite direction of recoil, slowing down lock time. That works better with .38 Super and 10mm than it does with .45, but if you notice lower perceived recoil, it's worth it. Try to shoot a gun with the compensator you want before you decide.
