I bought this bushmaster locally, new at a shop, for a little over $700. I knew I could build cheaper but I didn't want to dick with building and wanted instant gratification. Plus, a warranty is nice.
Bushmaster Firearms International based in Carson City, Nevada, United States, is an American manufacturer and distributor of firearms. The company's product line revolves around semi-automatic pistol and rifle variants of the M4 / AR-15 design. Now made with 100% US materials and parts.
Some of those PSA kits just seem really cheap. Like $399? What reasons should I use to avoid something that cheap? What does it not come with that say, the $599 kit does?
Operational wise, what would I notice different in actually shooting it?
To answer this question, until you get into the higher end AR's, you're not going to notice a difference in how it shoots. The only difference you're going to see is aesthetics. There are 5 or 6 machining companies that mill the parts for nearly all the other companies out there.

I have a couple of bushies and no issues.
Along with OP - the gun above and similar can be had for 600-650. No taxes, no paperwork.
I think whore them out the way I want. Many people buy or build ARs, put 200 or less rounds down them and then want to get rid of them. (I don't know why, they just do) Typically you'll get them for 50-150 cheaper than new - again no taxes or paperwork. Especially if you get them to sell without all the tacticool stuff on it - which most of that is personal preference anyway.

Good points and if a 1000, 2000, 5000 dollar rifle is "worth it" is up to the individual. Personally for me, when you were indoctrinated with the GI rifles - it is not. I shot a couple of the higher end ones and I could see some improvements, but again - personal preference.
