My dad got an oldie this weekend. He put a quartering shot in him but he turned a bit and it was a touch far back. After a 2.5hr tracking job in 5ft weeds we found him. I put a .45acp 185gr XTP through him at 20yds as he was still in fine form. I recovered the bullet in the off side after it broke the shoulder and was just under the hide. Got him loaded up and finally back to camp around dark.

I don't hunt, but we have plenty of deer around the house. Here are a couple of them on the front porch.





We name them. First one is Boris and the second one is Bruno. These are just two of at least 15 different bucks we have seen lately. Too many doe and young deer to even count. It's illegal to feed them here, but they sometimes come for scraps on the ground from the bird feeder, and they munch on the grass/weeds/flowers/pine needles anyway. They will walk right up to us and even let you touch them.

There is one buck who is easily twice the size of either of these two. We named him Jabba. He's an old dude, and looks morbidly obese, and his rack is all kinds of crazy looking. We've only seen him come by once, though, and I didn't snap a pic.

It's so common to see these guys up close every single day, that most of the time we don't even bother to take pics anymore.

I've seen elk tracks in my driveway, but haven't actually spotted one yet up here. It's just a matter of time.

I let one walk and missed one so far, haven't seen much else. I have until Jan 2 for rifle up here, then I think we get one week of muzzle loader before season ends. If I don't have something by new years I'm going to be pissed

Sounds like me... I haven't even fired a shot this season except for at some bacon. I've seen plenty of deer at both my places but nothing that needs to be taken. Lots of young deer running around.

I'm fortunate to have the ground I do and also harvest plans with neighbors. Equals better chance at a booner.

Also I never said I was not proud. I'm proud of everything I take or I wouldn't do it.

Mine is small for my standards and young 3 year old at best. He is a deer I've never seen before so he gets shot and let's my mature deer age and grow. I should have some good ones next year if they make it.

I'm headed to OK next week to hopefully bag a nice rack. Been slim pickings the last few years, so we'll see.
