Not sure, but I can tell you that most businesses will not let you carry while working, whether the law permits it or not.

You could just hire an off-duty cop (I mean if carrying isn't legal).

Don't take this as gospel, but I seem to remember this question coming up in my class. I don't exactly remember, since it didn't pertain to me in any way, but I think there is something in the laws about employment at a 51% establishment, that a weapon can be carried by a licensed employee with the owners consent.

I could be wrong. But I almost know that question came up.

Hmm, I wonder if that would actually hold up, if you had the owners OK. You could just open carry with the owners OK too I believe. Kind of like you can at your own residence or someone else's that told you it was OK.

If it is posted with a 51% sign you cannot carry, I know this for a fact.

I believe if you are in a bar that isn't posted you are ok. I believe the requirement was recently changed to say it has to be posted, even if the CHL'er would assume they meet the 51% requirement.

I wouldn't mess around with getting permission, seems like things get grey there. Written permission would be better than verbal. You may get verbal permission but what if you use it on duty? Chances the owner is going to deny giving you verbal permission to take liability off of the business.

I believe that you are within your legal right to carry a firearm on your person if you are the operator of a bar without a CHL. by operator, that would mean manager or whoever was in charge during the hours in question. However, I think I remember finding out that the right to carry on the premise is lost with the issuance of a CHL. I could be wrong. But I'm fairly certain I'm correct on the first par, not sure about the CHL part though. I ran bars for 2 years and always had mine with me

I believe you're correct. If memory serves, during the 2009 legislative session, the requirement was made stricter in that the establishment has to be properly posted.

If you were working there and have been appointed by the owner to be the security person, you'd be carrying under that authorization. Not as a CHL holder. If that is actually how the law is, then the whole 51% thing would not apply to you.

I would think as manager or owner you should be able to carry in your own establishment. If we served alcohol the government sure wouldn't tell me I can't carry.
