Also, the gun was not modified to shoot 308 because ...
You asked why I thought it would encounter more failure in _combat_ than another firearm's design. I gave my opinion based on my experience in mechanical design and knowledge of how firearms are used in combat. To which you retorted with babble about tolerances.

the 308 was a late night mistake, I meant 30-06. And my question still stands to as why the autoloader was not able to be modified to fire it, and why the design was seemingly abandoned. It would seem that there would have been a market for a replacement of the competition since as you pointed out it had its own issues.

I have no doubt the gun was functional based on your posts, I just have doubts that it would have functioned well in the combat role.

      • I assure you that your doubts can be dispelled by the fact that it passed the same tests that Garand's rifle did, but also three countries instead of just the US (England, Japan) subjected it to harsh testing and deemed it acceptable, if not expensive and not a great enough improvement to justify replacing their small arms.

Garand's offering won for two reasons:
        1. It was 10-15% cheaper to produce.
        2. He had a model in 30-06 ready to go by stroke of luck.
-276 was already the way to go, and Pedersen had no reason to believe that it was not a sure thing for the US to adopt it
-The United States was extremely angry that he blew off the trials they had in order to go over and sell his design to the English

And my "babble about tolerances" has all been a direct and relevant response to your barrage of non sequiturs.

Yea the wood grip isn't too comfortable. I need to get a new rubber set that wont scratch up the frame though.

              • 1974 S&W 29 Carry Comp, 1 of 3 ever made.

They built the three prototype guns, and none left S&W, or so I'm told. They went on to make the stainless version of this down the road as a production piece, the 629 Carry Comp.

                • That's actually pretty damn awesome. However, it has the ballistics of a cap and ball revolver. .44 magnum does horrible in short barrels.

                  2" barrel 200gr= 833fps, .45 ACP wins.

                  • I should be able to bust 1kfps in my 44 special Blackhawks with some Buffalo Bore ammo I have. Bring your chronometer tomorrow, and let's give it a shot.

                    • I bought a g-prefix FAL. These were imported from 1959-1963 and then banned from import because they have the slot for the safety sear (auto sear). Only 1,863 were grandfathered in and the rest had to be destroyed. These are real, all Belgian FALs.
They are a safety sear and a trigger plunger away from being straight up machineguns:
