I set out yesterday to feed these two 1000 rds for Thanksgiving dinner. We had the AR500 steel plates setup - 16" plate for some distance shots, and six 6" plates hinged on a post for some shooting games.




Well, yesterday the word of the day was "spall." The plates are usually angled downward a bit. Yesterday they weren't, and shooting straight on at 10 yds I caught some jacketing right in the arm.




When we came back to the house my wife and her mom were on the porch, and the first thing I hear is, "You guys weren't out that long, did you shoot 1000 already?... and is that blood on your pants? What the fuck did you do?!" It took a bit to dig the piece out of my arm, but at least my sleeves were rolled up and it didn't ruin my new shirt

Did some 300 yd shooting yesterday with my BIL's Accuracy International .308. I might have been bitten by the distance-shooting bug.





And it's not exactly a "gun porn" pic, but I hit a 100 yd shot (red dot = 16" steel plate) with an out-of-the-box CZ P-07 also. 50, 55, 60, 65 were first shot hits, but at 70+ they got a bit tougher lol.

I've honestly never even tried a pistol shot that far (indoor ranges just aren't as fun, and you really need the sound of steel to have any fun doing it), so I surprised myself. I hit single handed shots out to 65 yds right handed and 60 yds left handed also. (using a rangefinder, not just counting off strides)

The wife and I are actually looking at buying some land, and something suitable for a long shooting lane is toward the top of our wishlist

When we setup at the 300 yd line I missed my first shot low. It's been so long since I shot more than 150 or so that I wasn't being really conscious about it all, and I rushed my shot.

My BIL (medically discharged Ranger who does 1000 yd shooting on his land near Big Bend) gave me the "dude... relax" reminder about my breathing, etc... and the second shot at 300 yds was just 2" right, 2" low on the plate. I'm pretty sure I have it in me to get into 500+ shooting, but I need to build a gun and have a regular place to shoot.

All over. State club matches have been broken into 3 regions (north, central and south) with matches held within their areas. Most are done for the year but our club finale is this weekend in College Station.
