They do, but factor in shipping, being a member of a cmp affiliate, then ffl fee. I was lucky enough to have none off the above.

The only expenditures are the intial fees to join the Garand Collectors Association and the $20 to ship the rifle. Being that CMP is the government, they ship straight to your door.

After that I think you're allowed up to 5 rifles a year and only have to pay shipping.

Oh yea thats right they do ship to the door, forgot about that.

How do you like your 709? I started tinkering with my sights at the range the other day and am afraid i fubar'd it. I don't like the way the slide attaches to the rail, either.. but for ~350 i guess i can't complain too much.

I'm happy with it. I had to crank the rear sight on mine most of the way to the left and almost all the way up, but that got it set.
It did seem like it came off the threads of the adjuster screw when I was running it to the left. I just put some pressure of it with my thumb and got it to re-engage.

Did a bunch of reading earlier and it looks like every 709 comes out of the box shooting low/left. Did yours? I got mine to shoot level but still grouping to the left, then i really got after the sights and think i messed up something.

Yep, mine was low/left. I got it pretty much zeroed out to 15yds and close enough to do the job beyond that.
That sucks about the sights, it might be worthwhile to see if they'd be willing to do anything warranty-wise for you.

It's not a warranty thing, it's a i'm-a-dumbass thing. I got rushed at closing time at the range and popped off 2 clips trying to adjust things. All i did was throw it out of whack... i'll try and clean up my booboo next time i get a chance to hit the range. Have you seen an extended clip for it yet? would really like a place to put my pinky.
