I have sent people to this guy. He is a 2nd or 3rd generation jeweler. He is THE jeweler. We got our engagement, wedding, and had some repairs and purchases for other things over the years. He is a standup guy. A true craftsman who takes a great deal of pride in his work while remaining very reasonable. He is located in Addison. http://www.gillespiejewelers.com/meetkim.htm

And there's VERY little aesthetic difference between 9/10 and 1 carat. When you go to them mall, they have a ridiculous mark up, but if you have a good rapport with the sales person, they'll be willing to discount. Much like buying a car, they'll be more willing to haggle at the end of the month and especially if they can get a credit app off of you. Open an account, get the ring, pay it off when your statement comes in, and close the account. Viola, 30% or more savings, and no interest charges.Originally posted by Grimpala View PostThe price break seems to be 1ct. The price difference between a .99ct and 1ct is ridiculous.

That doesn't mean another jeweller will give you more than you paid for it, or even what you paid for it. There's still plenty of markup in there.Originally posted by Smurfette View PostThe Jewelry Exchange in Richardson was good to us. We got a great deal..and my ring is guaranteed to be appraised for twice what we paid.

That is a perfectly reasonable idea. There is nothing wrong with being cheap, especially on bs like jewlery.Originally posted by kingjason View PostGo silver with no stones. We bought Keltic from Ireland that had meaning and we both love ours. Less then 200 for both imported.
Oh and not because we are cheap, because there is to much hype in gold and diamond rings. Silver looks like the platnum also.

Not necessarily. They're very useful when insurance claims need to be filed. It was much nicer getting $1,500 for the diamond and platinum earrings that the ex accidentally put down the garbage disposal, rather than getting the $580 back that I paid for them.Originally posted by Denny View PostRight. Those "appraisals" are bogus numbers anyway. Just another selling tactic.
Really, the value in anything is no more than someone is willing to pay for it.

Well, sure... a trumped up appraisal always comes in handy during fraud situations.Originally posted by ComeAgainJen View PostNot necessarily. LMAO, It wasn't fraud. I stupidly put the earrings in a juice glass when we went to visit the in-laws. I'd told my ex and MIL not to touch the glass, but my father in law took it to the kitchen. Andrew was talking and doing dishes, and never saw them. My MIL felt like crap, and I was heartbroken. My ins agent suggested we file a claim against our valuable personal property policy, since that's what we had it for. I wasn't heartbroken for long.Originally posted by Denny View PostWell, sure... a trumped up appraisal always comes in handy during fraud situations.
