We had a case where a lady came to us wanting to make a report that her dad was elderly and in a nursing home. His primary nurse approached her saying money was tight and she needed a few hundred dollars for rent. The nurse made the comment to the daughter that it would be a shame if the patient missed out on some care because she was worried about making ends meet, so the daughter wrote her a check.

The next month came the same story, so the daughter wrote another check, but kept the cancelled copies.

Well, her father passed, and then came to us telling us about the extortion that took place.

I wished I could recall the case number to see what ever happened to it...

I hope the investigator wrote a warrant for the nurse....

If it was even a nurse. Up until here fairly recently, nursing was rife with impostors. Its still pretty easy to learn the basics of geriatircs, and go to a local city run nursing home and get a job as a nurse with zero real qualifications and go make $24 an hour. It happens fairly frequently with nursing homes. It has happened to the one that the GF works at, and its happened to the one my mom used to work at. Its pretty shitty. They can check with the state board of nursing, but not all of them will do it. Its really crazy how many "down home" nursing homes there are that are will just forgo any of the formalities.
