FORT WORTH, Texas — A former North Texas police officer is accused of falsifying traffic tickets and claiming more than $20,000 in unearned overtime.

A Tarrant County grand jury on Wednesday indicted 46-year-old Herman Young, who resigned as a Fort Worth police officer amid the investigation.

Young is facing 12 counts of tampering with a governmental record and one count of theft by a public servant. The indictment says the overtime investigation goes back to 2008.

Young told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that he's surprised to be indicted and he does not yet have an attorney.

Two other Fort Worth officers targeted in the investigation have resigned. Police Chief Jeff Halstead fired six others, who are appealing.

This really worked out good for the people stopped, because the officers just wouldn't go to court and the ticket would get dismissed. There was no way the officer was going to testify against the violator when the officer wrote the wrong time on the ticket.

You say it worked out "good" for the people who were stopped, but couldn't they be completely bogus citations to begin with? If they needed documentation to prove they were working overtime, and were falsifying information on the tickets for their personal gain, who's to say they didn't pull people over for no good reason other than they needed to write a ticket so they could go home early?

I don't eat doughnuts. We have a guy who was fires reference a civil rights violation. Lady who filed the complaint was murdered on Monday/
