Gas Pump Etiquette

Exactly! My diesel is an 18 foot box van full of tools. Not some jacked up wanna be monster truck with a chip dumping smoke all over the road ways because they want to make it like its some sort of race truck too. So yes I actually do need my diesel and no I can't get one with a gas engine. So lets not have everyone stereotype here and make a bunch of asinine assumptions about people that drive a diesel.

Taking what I said to the extreme. We all know there are a lot of people who buy diesel trucks to say they have a diesel truck when they have no use for one.

Its bad for the people who actually need a diesel because it does two things... drives the price of the vehicle up, and also drives the cost of fuel up.

Its a trip to see the poor guys in small cars looking up to you in traffic wishing they didnt have to drive a shoe box everyday.

I happen to enjoy all 3 of our vehicles. They all 3 serve their purpose, run great, and look good as well.

18 mpg isn't all that bad, but 30 is a little better

hell i get 33mpg in my ''shoebox'' and that's driving the piss out of it! if i hypermile it i am getting 36-38

and personally i like driving it cause it is like driving around the city in a go cart

i couldn't get 30mpg out of my truck if you pulled it with your vw! as far as the wife's truck...it is supposed to get better mileage than her previous '04, with the same specs...if it does, it's very minimal. it may be our lead-foot driving, but 14-15mpg seems to be the norm.

Who are you to tell them what they need? How do you know what they need? Perhaps they like their vehicles to hold resale value, which diesels do. Maybe they want to purchase a truck they can put 250,000-300,000 miles on before having to replace it? Just because they don't have a trailer behind it the moment you see it, doesnt mean they have no use for one.

Because there are multiple pumps for gas. For diesel, there are usually only one or two at most. Excluding truck stops of course.

I don't tell anyone what they need except for myself. I personally have know plenty of people who had diesels who wanted it for the black smoke. Why are you getting your panties in a waud over this?

That's what I don't understand about newer trucks.

I've got a 96 Chevy with the Vortec 350 in it. I get 17 - 18 on the hwy, 16 or so in town. My dad used to have a 2000 with the 5.3L and he only got 16 or so everywhere.

You would think that with all the technological breakthroughs that have been made over the last 15 years we could get more than 16mpg out of a fullsize truck.

I love sipping that jetta in and out of traffic. It's a nice departure from the truck or Impala.
