Have her call him at 4:00 am in the morning every morning (maybe change it up a little time wise) and tell her to simply say..."Don't call me any more" and hang up.

This will only make him think there's a chance, any communication at all is a win for him. It means she hasn't disconnected herself, and there's still a chance.

Not responding, and changing the number let him know she's moving on and wants nothing to do with him at all, it may take a while, but this will set in over time. Not changing the number may get the same effect for a period of time, but eventually he'll start back up again when he's down on his luck with the ladies and doing some fishing.

He's 100+ miles away so I'm not too concerned about this. It's not an issue at all until he texts and they always say something like "why are you ignoring me?" or something along those lines. I'm not a dick by any means and I just want to nip this in the butt and get it over with.

Changing her number would be tough because she is in the middle of applying and interviewing for teaching jobs and that number is the contact all of the schools have on file for her.

He's basically getting drunk and feeling regretful. If she ignores it entirely, it will eventually go away....unless she has to play nice because there is a kid involved, which can potentially lead him calling her phone to talk to you, and then, the next thing she knows, you two are hunting buddies.

BTW, my advice is from both sides of the situation.

I've been in the OP's shoes before, and I've also been the ex, texting drunk late at night.

In situations like the OP's the only one that has ever worked was changing the number or blocking the ex's number.

Every time I was the ex, and drunk texting, I eventually got what I wanted, either more booty, or the girl back. Persistence is key with women, as long as you don't overstep things like the law

Every time I've had a new girlfriend that still gets regular texts from the ex, there was a 50/50 chance she was still getting sex from the ex. The other half they turned out to be manipulative whores that just wanted to stir me up, and keep the other dude on the hook because they liked the attention. Good luck, OP! Keep your eyes open.
