That is the flight time for their mortars to hit this base. Every spot here is covered by their long range artillery and mortars and this base will be rubble before you even hear the mortars coming. Enjoy your stay in Korea."

If we go in, it's going to be nasty and bloody. Those tunnels are booby trapped and concealed like crazy. Outside of combing every foot of ground with ground penetrating radar and use of some VERY heavy duty munitions, it's best for us to stay out and starve them to death.
I hope for our troops there it does not escalate, but these knuckleheads have an itchy trigger finger and it's inevitable that we will butt heads. How hard remains to be seen. I just hope it does not go nuclear. Korea is a shithole and we'd all be better off without it. North Korea is Afganistan all over again except they have the means to inflict severe damage. With our military excercises going, they will probably start their own. Then the fun begins.

Potentially yes, but they realize that would alienate us as a trading partner, at least for a while. Douglas Macarthur was told to chill out during the Koreas War, because pushing into China would have started WWIII as the Sino-Soviet split had not occured yet.

The penalty of going to war with North Korea would be a smoking crater where Seoul once stood, and the economic ramifications for South Korea would be terrible. The North Korean armed forces are no joke either, here are some fun facts-

North Korea has the 5th largest standing army on Earth.
North Korea has the largest active reserve military force on Earth.
North Korea has the 4th most tanks of any military.
North Korea has the 3rd most navy ships.
They have the most submarines of any nation, including us.
North Korea has more navy ports than any other nation.

War with the Norks would be incredibly bloody. Sure, we have a technological advantage but the gains yielded by this would be lessened by the determination of the (brainwashed) North Korean populace and their numbers. In WWII Japanese women jumped off of cliffs to their deaths to avoid capture, I think North Koreans would do the same in more instances.

Shit, who put the base there? Thats way to close.

Korea wont do shit but wait for us to send them food. Even though it probably would be in N. Korea's best interest to get something started.

They had Greives targeted since it was founded. Which is why it was annoying when the practice alerts would go off at 3 am on a Sunday morning once a month because you weren't going to be alive if it really happened, so why wake you up?

The only way to handle North Korea is to blockade it's ports, starve them out. Don't send in any foreign aid. No food, no water and go through and take out the civilian power grids and anything above ground.

not all of them. All the submarines are nuclear powered, but only the Ohio Class is the only ballistic nuclear submarine class which has 14 submarines and also 4 more submarines that are guided missile submarines.
The rest are attack submarines which are the Los Angeles Class, Seawolf Class, and VIrginia Class.

I remember similar statistics from Iraq in 91. Just sayin... The first 6 months would be bloody no doubt especially as overreached as we are now. If NK doesn't push everyone into the sea before then however American air dominance would be their undoing, provided the Chinese don't get involved. If they let the US build up properly with a big enough force, I'll take the ENTIRE Marine Corps along with 50-60% of the Army who are extremely veteran over an untested conscript army.

But yea Seoul is just FUCKED regardless.

In basic training back in 97 we were told that tension was still high with N Korea and that it wasn't really a question of "IF" it happened but was only a matter of "WHEN" and that we may be sent there.

"IF" we end up back in N. Korea I really hope that it doesn't end up killing half a million Americans.
