It does not take lethal force to subdue an unarmed man, regardless of his mental capacity. Even if he was a child molester, it is not an officer's job to administer punishment.Originally posted by Pooter View PostHe was mentally ill, and apparently was resisting arrest?
Sure sounds like a great reason to beat someone to death, huh.
Im just wondering why it didnt go out to someone actually deserving of a beating like that? Child molester, rapist, murderer, etc.
Needing to beat him that severely to subdue him is just ridiculous.
Those guys fucked up, plain and simple.

I do see a downside to today's way of policing, the bad guys are not afraid of the police, so they are bolder and take more liberties than ever. Society as a whole has gone down the toliet. Can you imagine people acting the way they do today in the 60's or early 70's?
Another article:
There's definite brain damage at this point already," said Thomas's father, Ron Thomas. "It's horrific. I've never -- in my Army career, in my law enforcement career -- I have never seen a person look so bad."
The father must not be an experienced LEO. I've seen stuff much worse than that.
Court records also show that Kelly Thomas did plead guilty to assault with a deadly weapon more than 16 years ago. Ron Thomas said Kelly is not a violent man. Police say that they have no record of Kelly Thomas being this violent in the past.
I see a glaring similarity to the Michael Jacob's case. Mental illness, cast out by his family, and yet he was a saint. It in no way excuses what the police did, just an interesting bit of information.

There is no reason any of that excessive force was used, couldnt agree more.

If this happened to my sister/brother/son/daughter I would gladly spend many years behind bars knowing the piece of shit crooked cop was dead in the fucking ground being maggot food.Originally posted by 03trubluGT View PostAsk Edward Cook how that worked out for him.
Vigilante justice doesn't solve anything. You would be the target of a huge man hunt.

I don't agree with the stockades/stoning part (who does that these days? Oh, that's right, followers of Islam) But I do think LEO's should have harsher punishments levied against them if they break the law while on official duty. Why? Because they're supposed to know better.Originally posted by 03trubluGT View PostIf it's not an option for anyone else, then it isn't in this case.

I agree, Matt is always saying that, whatever punishement they give to the regular Joe the cops get the same, but the point that he misses all the damn time is that cops are upholding the laws that we the people vote/instill in our society, therefore they should recieve harsher punishments, but they dont. Just Like AL P said, instead they get a slap on the wrist, time off with pay, desk duty, yada, yada, fucking yada.Originally posted by racrguy View PostI do think LEO's should have harsher punishments levied against them if they break the law while on official duty.
They are above all other citizens when they are enforcing the laws and until they know they will get harsher sentances, they will continue to abuse their power...Originally posted by SilverbackLook all you want, she can't find anyone else who treats her as bad as I do, and I keep her self esteem so low, she wouldn't think twice about going anywhere else.

You know Henry, I don't know why it doesn't happen more often, but it should. I think if they started holding everyone (officers, police administration, and politicians of every level) responsible, things would get better. Remember that judge in Tarrant county that let another judge's DWI go?Originally posted by Rick Modena View PostI agree, Matt is always saying that, whatever punishement they give to the regular Joe the cops get the same, but the point that he misses all the damn time is that cops are upholding the laws that we the people vote/instill in our society, therefore they should recieve harsher punishments, but they dont. Though I do agree that sworn officials should be held to a higher standard, I'd like to see them at least held accountable for the same laws that Joe and I are. The judge dwi is a prime example. It happens, but not near enough. If you break the law, whether it be speeding or murder, there should be no excuse, badge or not.Originally posted by 03trubluGT View PostYou know Henry, I don't know why it doesn't happen more often, but it should. I'm all for covering a buddies ass if he does something minor and stupid, but if a coworker were to rob someone, I'd be the first to hand over the evidence that I've gathered.

I know it sounds like Im a cop hater but im not. I actually have a few friends that are DPD, DPS and we have gone hunting, racing, etc. I just despise crooked ass cops of any department, county, state, country and the Plano Police Department, the latter cocksuckers can like my taint.
I have talked to many people, they all say you're a cool guy and aside from a little sand in your vagina towards me, Jared, racerguy and few others, you seem like an alright guy, but man sometimes your a handful on this site...Originally posted by SilverbackLook all you want, she can't find anyone else who treats her as bad as I do, and I keep her self esteem so low, she wouldn't think twice about going anywhere else.

Off topic, but people look at the past through rose colored glasses.
I guess it depends on your race/sex/location. Would I trade today's negatives for yesterday's positives, sure who wouldn't, but I wouldn't trade today's society on a whole for the one from 30-50 years ago.

Friend's b-day, girl gets too drunk, another girl puts her upstairs in a spare bedroom, from there she calls 911 saying the guy who we're having the party for RAPED her. We're all in the pool when the cops show up. Our friend we're having the party for was never alone with her and was an MP (now a police officer) at the time.
Cops were totally respectful and professional the whole time. Nothing like the ones I was used to getting harassed by where I grew up.
That party was forever known as the "CSI Party"US Politics in three words - Divide and Conquer
