Yeah, I feel like I put a little bit too much out there myself. I hope the chances are that I will never have to use any of it so its no big deal. I do not keep my bug out bag here at my place anyways. It is very close though. That was thought up when I figured it would be a good idea to spread out the goods in case I have to get out in a real hurry.

That's the book i was talking about in my first post.. Its a really good read. I think the key definitely is having land (or close family that has land) that has sustainable resources aka water, crops, livestock, etc and is easily defendable.

We are in Haslet. Likeminded people pooling knowledge is a great idea but I fear that bringing too many people "into the fold" if you will or letting too many folks know your details may compromise security.

There are a few here that know where I live and I feel I could trust each one to know that my castle is not the easy target they might go looking for, you still need to think about your own security.

On the other hand, having a "hive" as many preppers refer to it as; a group of people who poses individual skill set or materials that will allow for a better sustainment of life as a whole for the group, is a good thing also. Think; carpenter, medical professional like a nurse or EMT even military medic, engineer, electrician, hunter, MacGyver type; would all come in handy when combined to keep a small community functioning.

Food for thought (no pun intended), I read somewhere that there is only enough food supplies on any grocery store shelves to last 7 days. Imagine how that number will be knocked well below that if the masses think there won't be any food left come next week. If a break down in society occurs do you think the food trucks will continue to move? Doubt it.

I looked there in ~96/97 when you could pick up land for cheap, but passed because I was 20 and mountain pussy didn't sound like the greatest option. It still seems to be pretty affordable in relation to the closer in areas.

I don't actually have plans to be part of a hive yet, rather brainstorming the necessary roles. I still have a long way to go. Right now, I have what I need for my family to be self-sustaining in a society without any form of structured government or services associated with it... for about two years.

I guess in some respects I did bug out. My goal, if shit flew through the blades of the fan, was to get to higher elevation. I'm now about 2.5 hrs highway/4 back roads to my cabin, although I would prefer to purchase a place that is a bit more remote, looking at land up around Guffey, CO.

Needs: vehicle, stockpile, camping/hiking gear, etc. I'm sure if it ever happens I won't feel prepared enough.
