  • No more booze at new braunfels?!?!

If this sticks, it's safe to say I will never float this river strip again...while consuming my 8-10 daily beers.

I didn't know open containers were banned in the parks there, oops! I guess the city of New Braunfels doesn't like all the revenue toobers bring in every weekend. There are still plenty of places to tube on the Guadalupe that'll stay busy.

"The ban covers aluminum cans and plastic bottles. It also includes paper towels and disposable utensils."

Looks like this would also ban bottles of water. The citizens need to vote everyone that voted for this out of office.

The area does get heavily polluted as a direct result of people floating the river. However instead of making the outfitters take part of their revenue (those guys make an absolute killing) and clean the area up they'd rather try to run the floaters off entirely.

I bet the income from scrap aluminum alone would cover most of the cleanup costs. People just want to bitch though because they moved close to the river and everyone else wants to enjoy it.

Too bad for the city that there are state laws in effect that guarantee public access to all navigable river ways. Otherwise they'd probably try to close it off to everyone that doesn't live there.

Perhaps this will be enforced by an elite squad of New Braunfels Toob Police???

Years ago before Nascar supersized, pollution was a problem in race towns. Namely, it was beer cans and bottles everywhere. One year, I saw a few people that figured it out. They put posts in the ground in their empty lots/yards and then stretched large bed sheets between them. They then took spray paint and made a bullseye on the sheet. Then they put signs next to it urging people to toss their cans/bottles at the sign. The space was filled with cans and bottles that I'm sure went to a recycling station for some cash. Furthermore, the amount of waste just randomly tossed out was significantly reduced. The idea caught on in the area for each race forward, and trash wasn't a problem.

you can still bring reusable thermoses, and other containers.

Just get a party keg, and pre mix cocktails in those job site coolers with a spout.

I get what they are trying to do, a lot of people just toss empty cans/bottles, ziploc bags, misc trash in the river and it just washes up on shore. But I think they are going a bit far.

Open containers have always been banned in state/city parks on the river for as long as I can remember. That's why most people pay the 10 bucks to camp in a private campground.

I doubt any of that will fit in the 12x12x12 maximum sized coolers they allow on the Comal. First they banned containers smaller than 5 ounces (jello shots specifically), then mandated the specific cooler sizes, then actually did put police out all over the river to check IDs and arrest anyone that's "intoxicated". Now they are trying to ban disposable containers. I don't see why they don't just try to get the EPA involved and ban sun screen as a hazardous substance.

There is a the same kinda thing on the Comal. There are a couple old aluminum jon boats tied up under a bridge with the wall painted something like "throw all your cans here, but if you miss you get a ticket." And of course there are thousands of cans sitting in the boats that the city collects and recycles. Also at the exit for the river, there are the giant dumpsters that have "aluminum only" for all of the old beer cans.

I don't know how much aluminum scrap goes for, but it would seem that it would cover any cost of cleaning up any litter. Which, I didn't see really any while I was down there floating in July. Couple of empty beer cans floating around, cigarette butts, stuff like that.

The city probably made more money off the river floating season this year than any other with all of the extra people getting drunk and getting ticketed or arrested. That's tons of extra revenue for the city.

About 81 cents a pound, or about a nickel per can.

I believe they are also trying to make it more family friendly rather than just a bunch of drunk assholes floating down the river.

Those cheap bastards can go to Schlitterbahn, it's as family friendly as Sesame Street. I don't see a bunch of kids enjoying themselves floating down a river at 1 mph.

Fuck them, there are plenty of other places to go to float in a river. Hopefully that town dries up, all the old people can sit around and talk about which episode of Matlock they like best.

You know as well as I do it's just revenue enchancement. These new laws won't stop people from trying to drink on the river since they are just floating through. The city will make a killing on all the violations.

The city of Murphy is a perfect example. Just a few years ago that was a nothing, hole in the wall country town. But because of all of the growth in Plano, Wylie and Sachse there is much more traffic driving through the little city of Murphy. Now, Murphy looks like Frisco with all of its fancy shops and nice homes all because of the revenue enchancement fines because of the ONE intersection at Murphy Rd and 544. Three hundred yards before and after the intersection there is speed limit changes that easily catch people off guard and Murphy has reaped the benefits of it.

You and your sound logic are wanted elsewhere!!

I would add a hefty fine ($500 or more) for anyone seen littering. I fucking hate seeing litter.

I had to scream at this one family of individuals for emptying their entire car out in my parking lot. They claimed to not understand me, but somewhere along the lines of me getting redfaced, pointing, cussing, and kicking their trash back at their vehicle they figured it out.
