Shit the cravings never went away for me. Last smoke was 4-1-2011. Sometimes when I see someone smoking I crave one, but its just not worth it. It stinks to me now, but I still want one.

    Being healthy sucks.

LMAO! As someone who's occasioned to do so in years past, I can't really disagree.

Will that visualization help you to realize that's what it looks like to everyone else? I'm not trying to be rude, I'm just being honest.

Seeing a person dip is just as unattractive as seeing/smelling someone smoke.

If me saying something like that sticks out in your head enough to curtail you just ONCE, then I've helped

I have no first hand knowledge of it other than the folks I know that dip. They can't seem to quit, even though most want to.

You're going to need some support, at the very least. Maybe even go to the doctor to see if any of the prescription meds might be for you. They work differently for different people.
    Thanks.

I've heard that it is quite a bit harder to quit dipping because the nicotine withdrawal is stronger. I would guess something like sunflower seeds or some other thing to keep in your mouth while you go through withdrawal would help. Like Rotortrash said: with nicotine addiction, if you cheat once it not only resets the count on days off - but it resets the addiction making it harder to stick with it each time you cheat. The cravings subside, but it takes at least three weeks to get through the worst of it.

Lots of good advice in this thread. You will probably fall off the wagon once or twice, maybe even more. Don't be discouraged, just figure out what made you smoke, and try to close that door.

The desire to quit has to be there, or you WILL fail. Like was said, quitting is easy, staying quit is hard.

When you do quit, start counting the days you go without. If you have even a drag of a cig, that starts the count over. For me, wanting that number of days to get larger was some good motivation. And be honest, if your freinds ask how its going, tell them the truth. No shame in a slip up, just try again and start your count over. Not only does it start the count over, but any progress made in losing the craving is lost, however small it may have been.

While I don't want to discourage "cutting back", that's not quitting. Quitting is NOT SMOKING AT ALL. I hate it when people say,"I'm trying to quit, I only smoked a pack this week!" Smoking less is good, quitting is GREAT!

I think that's a good theory and all, but you're just replacing one thing with another (granted its less harmful) but he's getting no where closer to breaking the habbit of needing that feeling of a cig in his hand that is ready to smoke. He's just changing method of delivery rather than breaking any real habits.
