I didnt throw away a career and a pension. I got hurt in 2007, 5 years short of my 20 year pension. Blew right knee out in a fight with a domestic disturbance suspect. Cracked patella almost in half and destroyed 70% of the ligaments and cartilage. Torn meniscus as well. 2 years 2 surgeries and a year of physical therephy they decided my knee was too bad to return to duty so they let me go. I suffer from arthritus all over my body, have two badknees, have had 6 concussions, fractured neck and back, screw in right wrist etc etc.. i live in constant pain.. thats one reason why i am an advocate for medicinal marijuana.
