Flu shot is over-hyped. It takes so long to make and get to market, they guess at next years prevalent flus and make the shot based on that. Ergo, this years flu shot was effectively made last year on what they thought might be spreading around. Also the shot is only good for 4 versions of the 100+ flus out there. So, the shot you get may or may not protect you depending which flu is getting spread around as well.
I've gotten the flu twice in my life. Ya, it sucks, but you're gonna get it eventually with our without a shot. Best advice? Wash your hands before you eat or pick your nose.
The doctor gave my wife one the other day. It was free since she was in for a visit anyway and had already paid the visit co-pay. I will get on through my work for free in October. I get them if they are free. I never pay to give myself a weak version of the flu.
I was forced to take one last month during my physical. 12 hours later I had to fly back to the States from Dubai. That was a long flight after 4 shots.
The only year I got one (98ish) I was never sicker. However, there is a difference between a cold and the flu. I think most people think they are the same.
I'm in healthcare so I get them every year, it's typical to get some flu symptoms after getting the vaccine. I'd recommend it, I had the flu once a long time ago and it was horrible.
Funny this should come up. My dad (71) just got his and woke up the next day with really bad aching in his joints, and a fever. Turned out he got some type of "super" flu shot (HD?) that his doctor recommended. He only had one bad day, but he wasn't very happy about it.
