teaching your kids.

Just wondering if I'm the only one who gets a rush from teaching my kid practical things? Just taught my 10 year old girl to change a bike tire. I did the bad tire and she said my turn. So I let the air out of the good tire and said go. She nailed it. Happy dad.

I love teaching anybody anything I have to teach. The look on their face when they hit that I-got-it moment of clarity. It's the best feeling I can imagine besides when I have my own children.

I got my 6yr old changing the oil in the diesel. he's actually pretty good at it.

My next door neighbor isn't very good with his hands, so I have ended up teaching his kids various things.

I got a huge thrill out of teaching his four year old how to put the chain back on his bike and tighten it.

But I had to hold myself back from teaching him how to ride. I can't steal that kind of experience from them.

Now I can't wait for my boy to get here.

i coach my sons (alomost 5 now now) coach pitch baseball team. I am pretty sure i enjoy it more than any kid on the field. been doing it for 2 yrs now, the progression is mindblowing! but srsly, tips for teaching to ride without training wheels?!?!?!?!??

My little girl loves it and she is only 5. She is so darn cute and excited when she learns something new that I am eager to teach her more.

I know each kid is different but one day our 5 year old just said hey I'm going to ride my bike without training wheels. I thought ok we'll give it a shot and took them off. After mom loaded him up with every pad know to man I just pushed his little ass as hard as I could and said PEDAL!!! And I'll be damned if he didn't ride right off down the street, lol. Just take them off and let him try it, I think the key is to push them fast enough that they don't have to balance enough. Now turning and stopping that is a little harder, lol.

My dad took them off and told me that if I wanted to ride my bike anymore, I had to do it without them. I fell once, and that was it. You couldn't get me off my bike from age 4 to age 16, then I bought a car, lol.

teach your daughter everything you can. It helps her be independent....and not the stupid girl in the auto parts store looking lost. My dad had me changing tires, oil..etc to maintain my car when I wanted my license. I love going to the store now and rocking the guy behind the counters brain when he starts asking me the typical questions.....I mean really....do you have to know that I have an 84 gt.....nothing in the damn thing is stock any more anyways.....(this is just a previous example....the car no longer survives....)
