Anyone use a Resume Service?

Has anyone here ever used a resume service and/or a Headhunter to find a job? I would love to get out of dead-end retail management. Don't get me wrong, I'm thankful to have a job in this tough economy, but if I can find and get into a more technically oriented job, that would be great. My degree is in Physics so I'm looking to break into a technically related field with little to no experience.

Post your resume on Monster and Career-Builder. Head hunters will find you. Don't ever use one of those services that you actually pay for.

I am more concerned with resume services. I feel like I am missing key words or phrases to get picked up on. I have my resume posted on careerbuilder and usa jobs. I have applied through company websites. I cant seem to make it padt the automated stuff

Keep it simple, use keywords from the actual job listing, and just keep putting them out. I've been having trouble too but just got two call backs today and have an interview coming up. Good luck

Thanks. Physics, although impressive, wasnt the best choice for a degree. I've been through this a couple of times. At one point I had more than 100 applications out from coast to coast. With companies from IBM to NASA

I use a resume writing program..

I call it Microsoft Word.

How do people still not understand that you have to custom write every resume per job description. A resume service won't work for automated systems unless you get them all custom written.

I really appreciate all of the smart ass comments. they have been most helpful. i wrote my resume in your esteemed microsoft word, several different versions of it actually. I also have modified it for each individual listing I have appkied for. I also have had my resume, in multiple formats and wordings listed on all of the job sites. My original question was asking if someone had used a resume service to help fine tune their resume, the areas that dont need re-wording. I fully understand that if I am applying to flip burgers, that they could care less about my quantum mechanics, materials sciences, or advanced mathematical physics courses.

I was on the ladders.com and had them do a rewrite for me that was really good. I had another friend who is a published writer and well versed in that stuff and he came up with a better version.

Secondly you blamed it on automated systems. Which a resume service won't help you with. If you really are tailoring per job description it's probably something else keeping you back. Do you have any technical experience?

Technical experience is my #1 hurdle. I didnt fully understand the importance of getting an internship before graduation. I have 1 on site assessment and safety proposal I did with the Industrial Engineering department, that is it unfortunately. I try to play up what little relevant experience I do have and include pertinent course work. I was half way through my industrial engineering degree and one class from finishong my math degree when financial aid ran out and the real world called me back.

Yeah it's pretty hard to get in without experience, but I have seen a decent number of postings for entry level just not sure on the physics thing. Have you tried looking for multidiscipline, optics, or reliability engineering positions?

I know I was one of the only in my graduating class with an offer despite being far from the highest gpa. Internships are the single most important thing for getting jobs after graduation.
