Colorado nurses sue over time to dress

They have been employed by the hospital for years. They've been doing it for years. It only became an issue when they got caught clocking in early and were late for their shift. There is so much time in any given day wasted on getting a cup of coffee, running to the vending machine, taking a personal phone call, checking a text message, gossiping with a coworker, that the time to throw on scrubs probably evens itself out over the course of a week.

like i said earlier... suing over some bullshit like this is crazy! hell the hospital owner will save a shit-ton in linen bills and the ones who did clock in to get dressed... its a win/win for the companyOriginally posted by Forever_frost View PostFine. Make everyone buy their own scrubs and show up in them. Then tell the entire company it was because of these two douche bags"PSH!!!"

My job takes 30min out of my time each day so you can be sure my day will stop down for at least 30min . Even if it is at the end after all my stops are complete. I have asked to have it put back in but was told no. No problem.Originally posted by FreightTrain View PostWho clocks out for lunch?Rich

By your logic I should get paid when I pull onto my hospital campus and walk inside...Im at work...why shouldnt I get paid?Originally posted by AdRock View PostDo you expect to be paid for your time once you are AT THE WORKPLACE? I bet you do. That's what they want.
If I'm AT HOME getting ready for work that's on my time. If I'm AT WORK getting ready because my employer requires it then I expect to be paid for that time.
And I've hated working for employers that act like the whole company will fail if you're .1 hour late.
It goes both ways man. Employers are the anal clock watchers in the morning and the employess are the anal clock watchers in the afternoon. It's a wash.
How does it take 15 minutes to change your clothes?
I hope these morons end up having to pay for their own uniforms, wash them themselves and still come in at the same time like most hospital employees. Id rather spend my 5 minutes changing into work scrubs and not have to fork out $40 a set and wash them myself. When I get blood soaked onto my scrubs, I end up throwing them away and buying more on MY DIME

That sucks. I get an extra hour of pay everyday for driving to work. It's nice because it covers gas and lunch for the day.Originally posted by TexasT View PostMy job takes 30min out of my time each day so you can be sure my day will stop down for at least 30min . Putting the scrubs on at home and driving to work completely defeats the purpose of changing into scrubs - infection control.
On one hand, I agree with the women - if the task is a daily job requirement then they should be paid for it. On the other hand, that's the policy. If you don't like it, go find somewhere else to work. Don't file a lawsuit over something as trivial as 15mins. At $40/hr, what are they suing over? $20 gross per day?- Darrell

5200 a year. Yeah, sounds like enough money to raise a stink about to me.Originally posted by red95gts View PostPutting the scrubs on at home and driving to work completely defeats the purpose of changing into scrubs - infection control.

when i was working for security at comanche peak nuclear we had the same rule, uniforms, guns, badges, shoes, everything had to stay there, we dressed prior to work had to take the 5min walk across the plant for briefing, but you had to be in the briefing room prior to your shift and you were not on the clock, this was back in the early 90's,;; now they get to take everything home and dress.......similiar situation

I agree that they should get paid for dressing there. They tried to clock in early while they were dressing, so they sould be on time for their shift, and got in trouble. They tried clocking in at their normal shift time, and then got dressed, but they got in trouble for that, too. It seems like they tried to make it work, and now they're taking action because they were written up, so it's the company that was acting like cheap-asses first. You'd think they would let it go. They will once this is all said and done, because I bet the nurses win.
Oh, and the nurses should come to work naked so at least they don't have to get dressed twice.
