    Post-Traumatic Risk Factors Identified

    Week of November 21, 2011

Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) researchers from Boston report in the November issue of the Journal of Abnormal Psychology that risk factors for posttraumatic stress symptomatology (PTSS, short of full-blown posttraumatic stress disorder, or PTSD) in Afghanistan and Iraq veterans were found to be similar to those observed in Vietnam Veterans. An abstract of the study is available on the Journal of Abnormal Psychology website. Veterans who believe they are experiencing symptoms of PTSS or PTSD may call the crisis hotline number at 1-800-273-TALK (8255) and then push 1 to reach a trained VA mental health professional 24/7.

Let's see, someone who is having major difficulties dealing with things is supposed to call a number, listen to the "our menu has changed" entry, then play phone menu until they get to a point where they can listen to some crappy music and wait on someone to actually answer the line in a language they can't understand....

Yeah, I guess that will work

It's the V.A. Surely you didn't expect an effective solution.

Would be no good for me. My PTSD was from working in EMS, not military service.

From reading the AL magazine, that hotline had to be fought for at the time. I thought that particular one has been out for at least a year.

Although, I've never really found a definition for "trained" per se.

On the other hand I took someone to the hospital in FW awhile back, it was less than 2 hrs in and out, and he had to see three specialists. With the little RFID cards it was like clockwork and everyone was very freindly and businesslike. Maybe a fluke, I don't know.

I just dish out some old fashioned police brutality.

                            PTSD solved.

I'm sure someone will think I'm serious...
