If you were using the stock but rooted rom, the Sprint restrictions were still in place. If you prefer stock, you need to dl and flash one that's been tweaked and had the restriction removed.

The Verizon hotspot thing is a beast. I had that after my AT&T air card shit the bed. Way nicer, plus you can link 4 devices to it. Min was all company paid for though.

In doing it that way, you effectively registered w/HTC and voided your warranty. Had you gone the route of a developer method, your warranty would still be void but you could return you phone to stock and Sprint/HTC would never have known.
