No, they aren't just normal people, police officers take an oath to hold themselves to higher standards than other people. Without it, they become nothing more than deputized civilians. The only reason the Marines was brought up, is because Matt brought it up. And Marines too are not just normal people, their training teaches them that they are above normal people, non soldiers, and even as compared to other soldiers, they are better than any other branch. It's part of the killer instinct mentality taught to them. It's been discussed many times, by many different experts, that post service Marines typically have the hardest time readjusting to a "normal" life, because of this better that everyone else mentality they leave the service with.

Except all Brent really did is say that Matt was acting a certain way, followed by Matt's dare to say it to his face, prefaced with if he actually does do it, there will be physical violence. Why should Brent back down? Why should Matt? I mean it's obvious now that it's a pride thing between the two, and the line has been drawn in the sand.

It's typical male ego vs male ego. Only one is supposed to be an officer of the law, and hold himself to higher standards than everyone else, simply based on principles alone.

I'm taking the same side I always take: Logic. Anyone that's been here five minutes knows I'm as quick to call out friends I've known for years if they are acting stupid rather than just blindly swearing my allegiance to someone. What the marines seems to have taught you is how to get hot headed, have a chip on your shoulder, and abuse your authority. Of course this is my personal opinion, which I'm free to have, and solely based upon your actions in this thread as well as some others. You say you're different off the board, why? Because the internet allows you some ambiguity to act tougher than you are, or vice versa? Why is it so hard to believe that most people don't need to act any different in person than they do on the internet?
