Things to know when buying a house?

I just sold a house in Kingwood in August after owning it for 9 years. Unfortunately, that area isn't what it once was. Humble is quickly turning into a ghetto. The lack of retail anywhere else on 59N means all the undesirables from inside the BW show up at 59/1960. There have been armed robberies at Deerbrook Mall in broad daylight and that type of shit was unheard of when we moved there in 02.

Seriously? Do you live in the Houston area? I have been looking online and i was attracted to that area because the houses have big lots and land.

What are some areas in Northeast Houston that are kinda "country" that are considered nice? I just moved here in July and I'm still not sure what parts are nice and what parts are not. I'm wanting something with a little land and close to my work (the woodlands) byt want to stay south of the woodlands.

How long does it take typically for everything to be done (loan, etc...) before you can move in? My lease is up in four months and wondering if i should be looking heavily right now, or can i wait a couple of months? I already know what city i want to move so its just finding something in that area (which there is plenty to choose from.) I'm afraid i will run out of time if i dont start looking now.

I'd start the process 60 days from the date your current lease ends.

Not sure who that is. I just submitted my pre approval application online through my CU. Waiting to hear on that.

No but seriously, my search tool "NTREIS" does not cover the Houston area but I'm pretty sure I can find a GOOD Realtor in the area she is looking in. Might even be able to squeeze off a referral fee as well.

I will let you know when i get approved. Do realtors know what areas are good and bad? Seems to not be ANY zoning in Houston.

They should if they know the area but we are limited to what we can say when it comes to that. If you find a house or neighborhood you really like best thing to do before executing a contract or letting your option period expire is to go talk to your new soon to be neighbors or call and get a report of criminal/crimel activity from the local police department.
