I had a 95 5spd 2.3 that I drove the wheels off for 6 years- never any issues other than normal maintenance. RIP ranger

I wouldn't even call 98 the redesign year. Only thing that changed was the grill/headlights/fenders. Those trucks haven't changed since 93.

I had a '00 single cab Sport. I loved that little truck. I had it when I was a delivery driver for Pizza Hut my freshman year of college. I put 35k miles on that thing in a year and it didn't start having problems until it got flooded. Apparently there is a good bit of electrical shit under the floor mat in those trucks and it started having all kinds of weird electrical problems.

At one point, I had a '89 Ford Ranger XLT with the 2.3L. One of the most reliable maintenance free vehicles I've ever owned.

i understand the eco-boost gets better gas mileage than a ranger but the price is way different!!!

sad to see the cheap truck go

Far from, but it was beyond outdated. Its a damn shame Ford neglected this truck for so long. A 2.0 ecoboost or 3.7 v6 with redesigned sheetmetal and these things would have sold again.

Yeah they are pretty dangerous when loaded down! Hopefully that thing had fresh plugs in it. I know the ~110hp motor drops to about 70HP if the plugs are fouled. I changed the plugs in all 3 of mine and they ran like a champ afterward. I heard all the horror stories about changing the plugs and was prepared to spend a whole weekend trying to change all 8. It took me a little over 2 hours on the first one, and by the time I changed them on my last one, it took just over an hour. Sure it's a pain in the ass, but it isn't NEAR as bad as what everyone was telling me!

Damn straight it would have been. I also wish that Toyota would put their diesel engines in US trucks.

The S10's were pieces of shit. We I first started, we had Mitsubishit Mighty Max's. Mine was a 92, manual, with no a/c, no radio, a billion miles, and you could lift up the shifter boot and see the passing road below you.

I've never had to put a fuel pump in a Ranger and the only transmission I replaced was in a '00 F150 with a 4.2. It was the most bullet proof truck we've owned. Original trans went about 120K and the reman had 210K on it. We finally traded it off at 330K and it had a newly recovered seat and still ran like a champ. Other than tune up's, brakes, batteries, and a starter, no other work was ever needed.
