I just bought some whiskey stones that they has in the gift section of Target a couple days ago. figured i should get them since it wont water it down. So did i buy a decent bottle or is there better i could have bought for the money? • Yeah, it's good whiskey. That's a decent deal on the knob creek. It's good too. There are tons of options and you may find some inexpensive whiskeys that taste good to you. I have found that price mark isn't always a good indicator.

Woodford is my favorite and 1792 Ridgemont Reserve is pretty close and about $10/bottle less, probably more on a handle.

For bourbon I typically mix a little coke in (I know, shame on me), or at the very least use ice or stones. However, for single malt scotch I typically drink it neat.

Oddly enough, Wild Turkey 101 and Old Weller Antique 107 are purchased pretty regularly by me. If I'm just not feeling like drinking them straight then I'll mix in some Sprite zero and sidestep the guilt of mixing my whiskey due to the price.

            • Just scored my first mason jar of true moonshine straight from my cousin in Kentucky who made it personally. Stoked to see what this stuff is like, says it's 150 proof.....

Now that is a whiskey I would more than gladly cut with something.

                  • drink it straight, you'll pass out from the lack of oxygen!

150 proof is foul stuff, now take that and cut it down into some good old 80 proof apple pie, and you're in for some good times.

Edit: do you guys put a couple of ice cubes in it or just drink it room temp? Ive been using a little ice.
In Scotch particularly - the ice acts the way a "splash" does in helping open up the aromatics in the whiskey. Too much will drown it. And always use filtered water/ice.

Occasionally I'll opt to drink straight but prefer to add one or two cubes. Bourbon the same way but find myself drinking it straight more often.

Oh, and on the subject of stones; I have some but found that they didn't help the way ice did, and only chilled the drink, so I quit using them.
Not being a snob though, just didn't prefer them.

                              • I like to throw some ice in my Woodford, but I don't mix it with anything else 99% of the time. If I do it is usually at a party and I'm trying to slow myself down.
