I think friends and family see the 750ml bottle and two rocks glass set and immediately think of me. I have four of them right now.

My Specs had this and Baby Blue last week. They don't even bother putting it on the shelf, a case won't last more than a couple of days. I could see Rumble being a great gateway spirit. It's a little too sweet for me but a casual wine drinker would probably love it.

I'm not a huge fan of the Baby Blue though. I'm sure it's great product but I'm not a fan of the style. It does have some historical significance though as it was the first legal Texas whiskey sold since prohibition.

The founder is back up and running btw but he can't produce whiskey for a couple more years.

        • Checked out Whitmeyer's Distilling this weekend in houston. It's pretty cool getting to see a small operation like this as opposed to the big Kentucky guys. The owners are brothers and they are very knowledgable and great to talk to. They let me do a six bottle blind taste test putting their 2 yr single barrel against brands like Basil Hayden's, 1792, Baker's, etc. They use 15 gal barrels to accelerate the "aging" (better oak surface area to volume ratio) and they are trying to collect data to show that age, in terms of years, is sometimes irrelevant.

Their flagship single barrel reminds me of 303 from Denver.
Also, they have a peach flavored whiskey. They said it takes just 5-6 drops of their peach concentrate to treat 250 gallons of whiskey.

I really liked the first few glasses I had of Baby Blue, but I really tired of it quickly. It's languished on my shelf for a while, but it's making for a nice sharing whiskey for friends who come over and haven't had any Balcones before.

                • Woodford has a rye now. Rollout to market starts in February.

                  53% rye.
It will initially be limited to select markets, but rest assured distribution will expand. You can find it in February in Kentucky, California, Colorado, District of Columbia, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia and Washington.

Woodford Reserve is adding a permanent Kentucky straight rye whiskey to its portfolio next month, although distribution will initially be restricted to certain parts of the US

                        • I had quite the chuckle a few week or so ago when Don called Bulleit (Bullay).

Tom Bulleit pronounces his name bullet, so I think I'll go with that for pronunciation

I have a bottle of the Fr. Oak version I'd be willing to part with if anyone is interested. No clue what it's worth but less than 200 made it to retail. I paid $80+ tax directly from the distillery.
