haha! I love how people still see the military as a second class organization or a good "back up" plan. We are way past the post draft days when all uncle sam required was a pulse. The military is downsizing and taking only the most highly qualified applicants.....Its good for the military as we have the best "qualified" personnel...but sucks if you are a recruiter.Originally posted by Jasonone View PostWhat about the military?

That's pretty cool of you. I made some dumb mistakes as a kid and know how hard it is to get a good gig when you've got that hanging over your head. It's part of the reason I've been with my current employer for nearly 7 years now.Originally posted by svo855 View PostYears ago my GF was a parole officer and I got to meet a lot of young guys who just did something stupid and relatively minor that got them thrown into the pen for a few years. I have had great luck and have found them to make very loyal employees. I have a company that does swimming pool repairs, maintenance, and remodels.

The economy sucks right now and there are a lot of skilled non-felons looking for work still.Originally posted by woodstock View PostIm going through the process of trying to find a job as a felon now. They talk alot about rehabilitation and everything when your getting out but no one wants anything to do with you. Even for those who made a mistake and are trying to really change, there is alot stacked against you. I can see why soo many people end up back in the system. IMO the only field you can really go into is some sort of trade.

Just because an application asks, doesn't mean they won't hire a felon. Sometimes they just want to know if it was a violent crime, or theft. If you have either of those on your record, than you're going to be hard up to get a decent job. I was put on felony probation a little over a year ago for possession. While it definitely makes things harder people are still willing to look the other way when they see that it was a marijuana charge, and not a violent crime. Luckily my probation is deffered, and I won't have the conviction when I finish. It really showed me how much harder life gets when you don't worry about consequences though. Honestly after having to go through all this, if I had my own business I would make a point to hire at least a couple people with a prior felony. As hard as it is to find a good job anymore, its even harder for felons. Many of them are still good people, and they appreciate you and the job so much more for giving them a chance.
