They aren't getting more of the service for which they signed up for free. They are getting a much shittier service. "Limit" doesn't only mean that the service stops.

The limit on the fast speeds for which customers signed up is 2g. That's not unlimited.

One of the shitty things about this whole situation is that we pay $30 for unlimited, and the current $30 plan is for 3G of data.....but instead of throttling us back after 3G, they're doing it after 2G.....

Oh, I understand their loophole, I just think it's shitty. I've been with AT&T wireless since 1996. I was 17, my phone was one of those damned motorola bricks, the plans came with 20 minutes, and each additional minute was $.99.

I've been on this plan since the 1st gen Iphones came out, and I don't appreciate being fucked over after 16 years of loyalty. I could understand if they were to throttle back after 3G, but limiting it to 2G for the same price is bullshit.

They're not worth my time. I'm up for renewal on 2/29/12, and was planning to upgrade to an iPhone 4S from my existing 4, that's just over a year old. Our company is getting discounts through Verizon, so it looks like I will probably be switching in the near future.

Yep, and lol at anyone who thinks only ATT will be doing this sort of thing long term. Mobile data has exploded parabolically and is only growing at an increasingly rapid pace. Conservative estimates have mobile data in 8 years at 100x today's level. Carriers can't accomodate it. Only solutions are cell splitting, increased spectrum, and increased efficiency on the RAN.

I'm switching mobile carriers today, Verizon will never do this to me!

i posted on their facebook wall, asking why they're throttling unlimited users at 2-gig and selling 3-gig packages for the same price. to be honest, i've never had a throttling issue...i looked, and i haven't even hit 1-gig in the last 6-months...i have been close, though.
