Figures. I think there's only like 2 birds not protected in some form or fashion.Originally posted by Yale View PostGoddamn it. Apparently, they're covered by the Migratory Bird Protection Act. the dallas gun club does it every year (as do many others, i'm sure), and the animal rights people usually try picket, throw stuff at cars that enter, etc. anyway, they have pigeons brought in, and they have bracket type contests, where you have x number of shots to kill x number of birds within a given area. if a bird makes it out of the area, you don't move on, if you don't kill all of the birds with the given amount of shots, you don't move on, etc. at the end, the winner gets whatever the prize is...usually it's quite high, as the entry fee is very high. do a search on "dallas gun club pigeon shoot", and you'll probably find several people pissed off about it. they went to court a few times over it, and it was a hot issue for a little while. they'll bring in semi loads of birds, when they do it.Originally posted by momo View PostWtf is a live pigeon shoot? Be better if they'd do it in city parks...like a pheasant hunt.Originally posted by STANGGT40 View Postthe dallas gun club does it every year (as do many others, i'm sure), and the animal rights people usually try picket, throw stuff at cars that enter, etc. anyway, they have pigeons brought in, and they have bracket type contests, where you have x number of shots to kill x number of birds within a given area. if a bird makes it out of the area, you don't move on, if you don't kill all of the birds with the given amount of shots, you don't move on, etc. at the end, the winner gets whatever the prize is...usually it's quite high, as the entry fee is very high. do a search on "dallas gun club pigeon shoot", and you'll probably find several people pissed off about it. they went to court a few times over it, and it was a hot issue for a little while. they'll bring in semi loads of birds, when they do it."Self-government won't work without self-discipline." - Paul Harvey

Define, "destroying". I consider shitting on my car destruction of my property. I hate those damn birds. It seems like every year their population doubles. Too bad you can't discover a way to lure them into shipping container sized traps and funnel them into a wood chipper.Originally posted by Yale View PostGoddamn it. i'm down to bag some quail/pheasant for the sake of good eats, but shooting trapped pigeons out of a trap seems to fall between full retard and white trash.www.hppmotorsports.com

Well, shooting live pigeons is where skeet shooting came from. There's a reason they're called clay 'pigeons'.Originally posted by momo View Postyea, i watched a video on it. it looks like a pretty trashy event overall.

I would have never guessed that, my parents neighbor sits on his back porch and shoots them all the time. He has about a 5 or 6 shot 12ga he uses.Originally posted by Yale View PostGoddamn it. yeah, you probably wouldn't even have to aim...just shoot and reload.Originally posted by ARIX View PostI always wondered how many would go down from one 12 gauge shot.
I've always wondered what would happen if I threw out a 5lb sack of rice for them....would they eat so much that when they finally get a drink of water the rice would swell up?Originally posted by Yale View PostGoddamn it. I shoot a few nearly ever Friday afternoon in the middle of Highland Park. A Browning .22 semi auto is my weapon of choice and the HPDPS doesn't give a damn.Originally posted by Yale View PostIf they're not in the city limits, kill all you can!
