I'm not mad. How could I get mad at people talking about things that they have no knowledge of? Isn't that the exact opposite of what a teacher would do? LolOriginally posted by MattB View PostShe mad
I don't think so. I think it opened up some interesting conversation. :-)Originally posted by 5.0_CJ View Postthread backfire.Token Split Tail

I guess I have to be a teacher to criticize teachers. Seems like that would absolve teachers of all criticism. It opened up some great discussion. Like I mentioned before, seems to be a pretty controversial topic."When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic." -Benjamin Franklin

It is that!
And at the end of the day, aside from those like Leah that just like to bitch about pay to be bitching about something, they aren't really accountable for the decisions of those above them telling them in which direction to go. They can only do what the bosses say they can do, after all...just joking Leah!!!!

ยท In the long run, we must advocate for better salaries for public school teachers. If we want to attract and keep the best teachers, we must pay them more. Better salaries would also attract better teachers into low income and urban schools, the places where we need the VERY best teaching.
I think a lot of the argument stems from this part of the post

Well, if that's the case, that's dumb. LOL I didn't write that-I just copied/pasted for the other information. So if that is what all this has stemmed from, I apologize guys-that was not what I was focusing on and what I found interesting. Carry on.Originally posted by Superwho View PostI think a lot of the argument stems from this part of the post

Maybe I was reading too much into it, I just don't typically enter into a conversation with someone I'm cool with where I utterly demean the skill level required to do their job. A job that isn't simply a 9-5 gig that just pays the bills, but one that you have devoted the bulk of your adult life to because you feel so strongly about.Originally posted by 5.0_CJ View PostMy very first replace was "IF your intention was to bitch about pay" It isn't a personal attack on Leah. I'm commenting on teachers in general, and especially focused on the ones that DO bitch about pay, and DO call in sick and strike because of pay. I think it's a real good discussion about something very important right now.
I don't take issue at all with your comments regarding pay, or the teachers constantly demanding constant praise or respect because of their chosen profession. And fwiw, I doubt Leah really did either. Teachers here do make pretty good pay based on the basic qualifications for the job. I think $50k a year is a very reasonable salary, and had I chosen, or should I choose to become a teacher, I would be pretty satisfied. It was just that implication that "any monkey can do what you do", which kind of stings when from someone you have had over to your home.
So if your only intent was to spark interesting or stimulating conversation, my bad bro.
