So you donate to this cause and after you say that you think it's a scam or someone looking for another handout. I have not donated to this particular person but have to a few others in the past and donated what I could to Toys for Tots this year. The point is not how much you give but that you try to help in anyway you can. You just always seem to be on a high horse around here and it drives me crazy.

High horse or not, Dave has always been one of the few helpful members on the site. I think people tend to read too much into what he says.

Thats not true man. I just state my opinions. If I wasnt a physician I would be just like every other shit head on this site. Dont assume that because I am a doctor that I have a God complex or am on a high horse. Thats just not true. But I can see where you would think that.

If I am such the heartless asshole, then why did I give over $500 to complete strangers going through hard times? Helping people that cannot help themselves is a worthy cause.

Actually, he is working on getting into school so he can get a degree and get back where he needs to be. He has a plan for the future and had things working out for him until this but, hey skepticism is good.

No guilt trip intended. It's not an obligation to do a thing, nor should it be. He had his stuff together, he just hit a hell of a time within the last couple of weeks. And if it was a repeat thing I'd not have mentioned a thing. When I saw him last, last December, he had a good job with the Red Cross and was rocking along. But he hit some bad times and if it's a dick move to come here asking for help, then it's my move, not his. Call me the dick, not him.

This was my call, I remembered another family on the old site hitting some hard times and the community that popped up and said "Yeah, we look after our own." If you're a combat vet, then you should know how I feel about this and I'd do the same for you.

We'll just have to agree to disagree then. Regardless of intentions, you bank on others' guilt to help this guy. Yes, I am a combat veteran and I disagree with helping someone who has been out 5yrs, has 2 kids in diapers, no job and no plan for the future. If you feel so strongly about it, go take out a loan for him or give him a car instead of passing it onto the people on here who have their own families to provide for...

We can chalk it up to a big misunderstanding! I've learned a lot of lessons over the past year. Hopefully next year I will be able to help out with some of the great causes that come up on this board.

Just thought I would give a little input. I've been out of a job and essentially homeless this year, but I've managed to dig out of that hole and prevail. From someone who has never asked for handouts and has fallen on sudden, unexpected hard times, I wanted to give my opinion.
