POOPNUT.. what kind of job are you looking for? Our company is looking for welders, electricians, and general assemblers. We design/make/sell equipment for the oil field industry. The shop workers work long hrs... 60 + hrs a week. Our production is full for 2011 and they are looking for more capacity so we can stop turning away customers. Lead time on our products is now over a year due to demand.

Get a job with the government. I'm sure they don't care about a dwi when they employ thieves and tax cheats

In Tx, most first offenders get away with a fine and probation period. The second is a Class A misdemeanor and usually brings a ignition interlock, large fine, jail time, and DL suspension for 180-1year. The 3rd DWI (or more) is a 3rd degree felony and brings prison time for 2-10 years, huge fine, interlock again, bye bye DL, and usually a court mandated alcohol education course. Oh and there's Intoxication Manslaughter and Intoxication Assault.
-Most learn from there first, so I have faith in ya. its the dumb party boys n girls (i got a lot of women drunks. They were almost ALWAYS the drunkest).
-Lastly, some food for thought... The rate of extrapalation of alcohol in the human body is about .015 BAC an hour. For example: Do not drive for one hour after you drink 1 12oz beer, or 1 4 oz glass of wine, or 1 2oz shot of liquor. They all take approximately 1 hour to extrapalate under the legal limit out of the body. So, rule of thumb, if you say you had 4-5 beers, then you should have waited 4-5 hours before you left. I could go on, but Im gunna stop now . Good luck to ya brotha.

It's all about keeping the offenders (out of the jails) and on the streets where instead of costing the City/County/State $100.00 per day to keep your ass incarcerated, you're paying into the coffers to keep your freedom and perpetuate the process.

Primarily, it's all about the money first, and making our society safer is a distant second in priorities.

I have seen a lot of guys in the construction field with fucked up records keep work despite the blemishes. Like Jody said, it's been 11 years for him and he's still having it come up. But if you've ever met Jody (slow99), he could be holding a bloody butcher's knife in his hand and still nail an interview for a position as a company's CFO.

    Power out of it, man!

Not bad for a 25 yr old with no kids, no debt, and very few bills.

EDIT:Actually, when I called to notify my insurance company they said don't worry about it. They don't wanna make any changes in rates due to the possibility of losing a customer. So my insurance has stayed the same.
Thanks for the info. I have been out of service writing for 5 years now but I used to really enjoy it and was good at it too. Five Star is the closest Ford dealer around me (Haslet) and they seem to always have work. If I can not find a job in my same career field I might revisit this conversation with you. Thanks. Good luck on the job hunt..

Try having a Secret or Top Secret clearance and getting a DUI see how fast you will be unemployed if you report it like the laws states you must.

Since taking this job overseas I find myself drinking less and less each trip home. I also find myself NEVER getting in a situation where I might even think about a few drinks and driving home. There is no way I am loosing my job and career future over a DWI/DUI. I am actually more scared of that then I am of the Texas court system/insurance and surcharges.

it's fucked up that they lump so much into dwi. It could mean that you were shit faced and swerving all over the road and being dangerous. Or it could mean you had a couple drinks and were driving perfect, but it was 2:15 a.m. and a cop decides to check you out.

Like Steve said, I've looked into it, and the problem seems to be with employers personal insurance agencies, not the employer themselves. I was all signed up to go back to writing service at Five Star, but they ran into issues with their insurance company. I know the manager on a personal level and that's what he told me today. What's funny is that I was employed there after I was convicted. I guess at that point it's a don't ask don't tell issue.

I just think it's funny how I could kidnap or beat the piss out of somebody and it be forgivable in the states mind. I saw that there was also deferred adjudication for murder charges. Legal priorities are strange. I guess whatever nets them more money is what they're gonna go after.
